LE REFUGE DE L’ALPE DE VILLAR D’ARENE

 

Situated in the midst of  a mountain pasture-land grazed by a drove of cattle, facing the « Mountain des Agneaux », the refuge of Alpe (C.A.F. Briançon) can welcome you (with home-made tartes, meals, snacks, drinks).

 

   Not far from you, hens are picking grass and insects. A few yards further from his paddock, the pack-donky is looking nicely at you. His pal the goat is grazing quietly. Marmots, ravens and (less noisy) chamois are also here, indisputed visitons of these premises.

 

   It is easy to get there by the « Col du Lautaret » or the « Pied du Col » (GR 54) or a little longer by « Le Casset » (GR 54) it could be an aim for a daily walk, or for a few days trip (stage GR 54, « basis camp » for other trips, like the ascent to the refuges « Adèle Planchard » or « Le Pavé », toward the sources of « La Romanche », or « La Tête de Pradieu ».

 

   If there is a paradise the alp of « Villar d’Arène » is one for children… a small rivulet, a few b locks of rocks, grassy slopes and the whole room for running and laughing to the life.

 

   For alpinists, it is the point of departure for many trips : « Chamoissière », « Les Agneaux », « neige Cordier », crossing toward the « Refuge des Ecrins » or the « Refuge du Glacier Blanc » for the more classical ones.

 

   In the spring, for raid skiers, it is an ideal place for star-shaped trips (« Col du Clot des Cavales », « Col des Agneaux », « Col du Fontenil », « Pointe de l’Etendard ») or a stage during the circuit of La Meije (junction with the « Refuge du Goléon », of « l’Aigle », « Planchard », « du Chatelleret », « des Ecrins », « du Glacier Blanc »).
